Aung San Suu Kyi’s NLD (National League for Democracy) Party had opened a new era for Myanmar (Former Burma). Even though many conflicts still remain such as the fightings of Northeast border Minority Tribes with Burmese army, such as Rohingya Muslims genocide issues etc., a more democratic direction and open atmosphere is expected to come into realization. This cannot be foreseen before. I am confident that the Kingdom of earth is in God’s hand indeed. And, the time is up, God is taking actions now.

One film, “The road to Mandalay” 再見瓦城, first shown in Myanmar’s theater in early November. This kind of movies was banned for 50 years for censorship. Suddenly, it is allowed to show beyond people’s expectation. The director, Midi Z, is a Taiwanese director who is also a Burmese Chinese from Lashio city of Burma. I had a chance to visit Lashio several times since 1995. The first time I was there with a team to do a short term mission for their Chinese school. The saddest things we encounter are leaving nothings for their young boys. As Midi tried to demonstrate (from his interviews) is the life that he had familiar with, the life that only “survive” dominates their steps and decisions. One of our sisters hold one boy leaving with tears because we know that their destiny is either a Jade digger, a drug dealer or smuggle to Thailand for a better future. Director Midi films other movies, “Ice Poison” and “Return to Burma” in 2014, in which he secretly took a movie out of real Burma about their lives.

These boys now walk into their different lives. Director Midi luckily came to Taiwan and thrived his way out. Most are still struggling. But, they are not the worst. I met a Palaung family in a rare Palaung Sunday service. The man of the family did a testimony about how he flee to Thailand, how he got beaten by Thailand Police, how he got into Thailand’s jail, and how he came back with empty hands. But, he shows the joy of having Jesus with him to conquer all the difficulties really touches me. He is one of so few Palaung Christians in that mountain area. Palaung/DeAng are much inferior economically than Lashio boys. I wish one day Director Midi can film a Palaung’s life to show how can a tribe be humiliated so much and  still live there generations by generations.

Our organization is just a mind-set to show that YOU are the pearls in God’s eyes.

Even though Love4Burma are weak in many aspects, I am still in favor of the unreached Palaung ministry.  We are praying that the sons of God in Jesus can show their faith by their lives and worldview. As long as the gospel can be spread among the unreached, I think we are in the right direction. May God and the Spirit help us with wisdom to be a vessel for the Lord!

Burmese-born Taiwanese filmmaker Midi Z, who hails from northern Shan State’s Lashio Township, left Burma for Taiwan in 1998, when he was a 16-year-old student going by the name of Thain Kha Min Lwin.

Today, the 34-year-old filmmaker tries to pull into focus the meaning of “home” by revisiting childhood memories in his films that zoom in on the experiences of his family and friends. His characters, in particular, were inspired by the stories of his siblings, who either worked as jade miners in Hpakant or were illegal migrant workers in Thailand.

Of the four feature-length films and two documentaries to his name, Ice Poison (2014) and The Road to Mandalay (2016) are his two most celebrated. The former draws an intimate portrait of two young people in Lashio who try to escape their harsh lives by selling—and even using—drugs, while the latter is more of a love story and tells the tale of two young illegal migrants in Thailand. Both films won several awards at local (Taiwan) and international film festivals. The Road To Mandalay was screened at the historic Waziya Cinema on Monday by Rangoon’s Memory! International Film Heritage Festival.

Knowing that his Burmese audience was not familiar with his way of filmmaking—which incorporates a more realistic and subjective approach to storytelling—the director said he was both excited and nervous to screen the film in his home country, his worry being that the audience would not understand his interpretation of Burmese memories. The Irrawaddy sat down with Midi Z on Tuesday to talk about filmmaking and what inspires it.

A powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake has hit central Myanmar, the US Geological Survey has said, severely damaging ancient temples at the old city of Bagan and killing one person.

Report of Love4Burma （2015）

Year of 2015 is a year of a new beginning for Myanmar (formally named Burma). The November election of Myanmar finally was over after one week delayed. The NLD (National League for Democracy led by Aung San Suu Kyi) won 887 seats, or 77.1%, providing Suu Kyi with a majority in both houses of parliament. The military-aligned USDP (Union Solidarity and Development Party) won only 117 or 10% of the seats and the army reserves a quarter of all seats in parliament.

We, as a loving entity of Myanmar, are glad to see that this new beginning might bring a new prosperity and democracy for this long suffering country. Love4Burma also sees that not only a new justice can brings more equality among all the tribes, but the Gospel can be known to the unreached among the mountains. God is in control and will fulfill His Promises through His Chosen people.

One last news from Myanmar Times is the recount of Shan State Ta’Arng (Palaung) region resulted one seat was taken away from the ruling party (USDP) and turned to Ta’Arng (Palaung) National Party.  Originally, Votes from six villages in Namhsan township were left out of the count, according to the state election commission. My opinion is: Namhsan are Palaung regions with mountains. The left-out may have caused by ignorance or unreached. But, it is corrected after the appeal.

I read a book of 1924 by a British Woman Mrs. Lslie Milne, named: The Home Of an Eastern Clan – A Study of the Palaungs of the Shan States. In the book she described the Palaungs among Namhsan areas in details. Almost 100 years later today,  it is still unreached. I think they are Gold Palaung where I have never met any of them. I also heard that they may have some groups working on their scripts but definitely they are not attentive as Pale or Rumai Palaung by Scripture Translators yet.

Ta’Arng (Palaung) National Party finally got 12 seats total. It is a encourage news. The reason I said so is that Palaung are socially and economically inferior peoples among all the tribes of Burma.

Even though we are weak in financially, I am still in favor of working with the unreached Palaung ministry.  May the gospel can be spread among the unreached, I think we are in the right direction. May God and the Spirit help us with wisdom to be a vessel for the Lord!
