The Myanmar Fire Services Department said on Sunday the bodies of 55 victims who died as a result of a landslide in Paung township, Mon State, on Friday had been recovered.
The landslide, which devastated the village of Thayphu Kone, is believed to have been triggered by heavy monsoon rain over the past few days.
The New York Times quoted Ma Htay Htay, a resident of the village, as saying she had just left for work on Friday when she heard a roaring noise behind her. Turning around, she saw her house disappear under mud.

Eight members of her family are missing, she said on Sunday, adding, “I’m praying hard that I will see them alive, but I don’t really have hope.”
“We have found the bodies of just over 50 victims so far and more are being pulled out as we speak. The village is believed to have some 140 inhabitants and many are still missing. Cars passing the area were also hit by the landslide, and many of the victims were occupants of the vehicles,” said U Thaung Shwe, director of the Mon State Disaster Management Department.
Elsewhere, other parts of Mon State remain flooded, with Ye township hit particularly hard. Residents of the town, however, said the water appeared to be receding on Sunday.
Nearly 20,000 people were estimated on Sunday to have been displaced by floodwaters in the state, and the state government and rescue workers say they are collecting and distributing emergency supplies to victims.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has forecast a weather system bringing more heavy rain in the next 48 hours and issued a warning to the public to watch out for gales, landslides and flooding.
Vice President U Henry Van Thio, chair of the National Natural Disaster Management Committee; U Win Myat Aye, minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement; and senior government officials were in Mon over the weekend to view flood-hit areas and visit victims in relief camps, the Ministry of Information said on Sunday.
“Efforts will be made to prevent a recurrence of such disasters through the use of warning systems and response exercises. As this cannot be done single-handedly, people need to cooperate with officials,” said U Henry Van Thio.
“Through prevention and preparation efforts, the effects of natural disasters can be mitigated, reducing the loss of lives and damage to property. Necessary support for relief and recovery will be provided, as will support for reconstruction work,” the vice president said.

The lawmaker said on Tuesday that three bodies have been recovered and 54 people are still missing. It would be difficult to recover the bodies buried by the mud, he added.
The accident occurred close to midnight on Monday in the Hpakant area of Kachin state.
Landslides are not rare, and usually occur when mountainous piles of mining scraps slide down on jade scavengers.
A total of 54 workers from two mining companies, together with 40 machineries including backhoes and trucks, were underneath the mud when the large refuse pile collapsed late at night on Monday, he said.
The Ministry of Information confirmed on Facebook that 54 workers were missing. It identified the companies involved as Shwe Nagar Koe Kaung and Myanmar Thura.

Report of Love4Burma (2017)
Report of Love4Burma (2017)
As one of very few
organizations aiming at third world countries, especially concentrating on
Myanmar, we, Love4Burma, cannot avoid the topics of Rohingya Muslims genocide
issues. The issues are Just as complex as those with Kachins, Palaungs, Wa,
Karens, or Guogan (Burmese Chinese); the distrusts between all parties are
built generations by generations. The hatreds are accumulated by events of
cruel crimes. Without a real mercy and a heart of reconcile, it is an unsolved
puzzle in a near future.
But, I do believe miracles
are in God’s hand. Nothing is impossible in His Will. I also believe in
Justices and Righteousness. No evil events can hide under His Lights.
Therefore, we will continue walking with the Lord, and let the Spirit guides us
in His Will with humble hearts. We continue praying for God’s wisdom upon Aung
San Suu Kyi and Her regime.
This year we have
two friends went to Myanmar with their own agenda. But, they volunteered in
their spare times to help us in understanding the progress and supporting the
needs of L G H and M P Ministry. Not only it saves us
the expenses of travels, but also represents our hearts and concerns of Love4Burma
– a small vessel that willing to do the good works according to God’s will.

Even though Love4Burma
are weak in many aspects, I am still in favor of the unreached Palaung
ministry. We are praying that the sons
of God in Jesus can show their faith by their lives and worldview. As long as
the gospel can be spread among the unreached, I think we are in the right
direction. May God and the Spirit help us with wisdom to be a vessel for the
Lord!

Report of Love4Burma (2016)
Aung San Suu Kyi’s
NLD (National League for Democracy) Party had opened a new era for Myanmar
(Former Burma). Even though many conflicts still remain such as the fightings
of Northeast border Minority Tribes with Burmese army, such as Rohingya Muslims
genocide issues etc., a more democratic direction and open atmosphere is
expected to come into realization. This cannot be foreseen before. I am
confident that the Kingdom of earth is in God’s hand indeed. And, the time is
up, God is taking actions now.
One film, “The road
to Mandalay” 再見瓦城, first shown in Myanmar’s theater in early November. This kind of
movies was banned for 50 years for censorship. Suddenly, it is allowed to show
beyond people’s expectation. The director, Midi Z, is a Taiwanese director who
is also a Burmese Chinese from Lashio city of Burma. I had a chance to visit
Lashio several times since 1995. The first time I was there with a team to do a
short term mission for their Chinese school. The saddest things we encounter
are leaving nothings for their young boys. As Midi tried to demonstrate (from
his interviews) is the life that he had familiar with, the life that only
“survive” dominates their steps and decisions. One of our sisters hold one boy
leaving with tears because we know that their destiny is either a Jade digger, a
drug dealer or smuggle to Thailand for a better future. Director Midi films
other movies, “Ice Poison” and “Return to Burma” in 2014, in which he secretly
took a movie out of real Burma about their lives.
These boys now
walk into their different lives. Director Midi luckily came to Taiwan and
thrived his way out. Most are still struggling. But, they are not the worst. I
met a Palaung family in a rare Palaung Sunday service. The man of the family
did a testimony about how he flee to Thailand, how he got beaten by Thailand
Police, how he got into Thailand’s jail, and how he came back with empty hands.
But, he shows the joy of having Jesus with him to conquer all the difficulties
really touches me. He is one of so few Palaung Christians in that mountain area.
Palaung/DeAng are much inferior economically than Lashio boys. I wish one day
Director Midi can film a Palaung’s life to show how can a tribe be humiliated
so much and still live there generations
by generations.
Our
organization is just a mind-set to show that YOU are the pearls in God’s eyes.
